Flavour Variety and Taste
The STLTH 3K Disposables come in 12 flavours, including options for those who prefer tobacco flavours and little to no flavour at all. The flavours include:
- Banana Ice
- Blue Raspberry
- Green Apple Ice
- Grape Punch
- Lemon Ice
- Peach Ice
- Strawberry Kiwi
- Tropical Punch
- Watermelon Honeydew
- Mint
- Tobacco
- Flavourless
Upon the first few times using the 3K, you can immediately notice two things–The flavour is very bold, and the cooling menthol is very strong. In the first flavour I tried, Tropical Punch, the flavour was indeed a punch of tropical! I thoroughly enjoy a device with an extra sweet, bold flavour and that’s exactly what this device provides. I like menthol flavours, but these devices definitely have stronger menthol than the usual ice flavours I’m used to. It is very powerful from even a small draw, and with large draws, I can feel an almost brain-freeze reminiscent feeling. It’s not intolerable by any means, but for those of you who don’t like cooling additives in vape flavours, these might not be for you. Additionally, even if the flavour does not include “Ice” in the name, it still has an ice flavour (i.e. Grape Punch).
Overall, the flavours are fantastic and I can’t see myself getting sick of it over time. STLTH has certainly packed a sweet, bold punch of flavour into every single device, making for a pleasant vaping experience. Our Vaping Expert Opinions
-
- Performance: Our Vaping experts generally regard the STLTH 3K as a reliable and convenient option for those seeking a simple and effective vaping experience. The performance is consistent, with good vapor production and satisfying nicotine delivery.
- Design and Usability: Our Experts commend the device for its user-friendly design and portability. The lack of buttons and settings makes it accessible for beginners, while the compact form factor appeals to users who need a discreet vaping option.
- Flavour and Quality: Users often praise the quality of the flavors, with the STLTH 3K delivering a smooth and enjoyable vaping experience. The nicotine salt formulation provides a satisfying throat hit and quick nicotine absorption.
Design and Durability
The STLTH 3K disposables have a sleek, modern, colourful design. With a flawless metal finish and a tough and durable plastic mouthpiece, I can foresee the 3Ks withstanding accidental drops and damage. There is definitely weight to them, and it’s evident that they are built with quality and care. With a bright and colourful design matching each flavour, they make for a stylish and attractive device to carry around. The STLTH logo is engraved into the metal, with another small logo near the bottom. There are 2 small air flow holes on the side and bottom as well. Simple, minimalistic and modern.
Comparisons
To give you a better idea of how the STLTH performs, we’ve compared it to a few other popular disposables.
ALLO: Flavour is bolder, does not burn out as quickly, smoother draw
Flavour Beast: Slightly sweeter, does not last as long (due to Flavour Beasts being rechargeable), overall the most similar device taste-wise
STLTH pods: Better and bolder flavour, does not burn out as quickly, less flavour options (may change in the future).Final Thoughts
The STLTH 3K Disposable lasted me an entire week (as a heavy vaper). The device maintained its prominent flavour and the battery held up along with the juice capacity. I knew the device was dead when the light at the bottom flashed, but with others, you may know it has died when the pod burns before the battery dies, depending on your usage. For a 3000 puff disposable, the length of time it lasted for me was accurate and fulfilling. I didn’t feel shorted on puffs and by the time the week was up, I was ready to move on to a new device.
Overall, this is one of the best new disposables I’ve tested out in a while. With the great flavour range, consistent taste and reasonable usage time, I will definitely reach for a STLTH 3K again. STLTH has released a fantastic new product that I feel will be making waves sooner than later and hitting the shelves of every vape store across Canada. I highly recommend giving these disposables a shot so you can experience the greatness yourself!

Navigating Vaping Challenges: Your Essential Troubleshooting Guide
Troubleshoot all your common vaping issues with our guide. As vaping continues to gain popularity, beginners often have a host of questions and concerns. Choosing coils, handling devices, and troubleshooting issues can feel overwhelming. Have no fear! We’ve compiled the top five questions and problems that vapers commonly face and provided the troubleshooting solutions you’ve been seeking. With our expert advice, you’ll swiftly become a vaping pro, confidently transitioning from cigarettes to the world of vaping.
Problem 1: My Device Isn’t Drawing!
If your device isn’t delivering the satisfying draws you’re expecting, here are some steps you can take:
- Check if your device is powered on: Sometimes, the solution is as simple as ensuring your device is switched on. Rapidly press the button five times (or three, depending on your device) to activate it.
- Ensure your device is fully charged: Check the battery indicators such as a full battery icon or a green light. If necessary, try using a different charger.
- Clean your device: Residue from e-liquids, dirt, or debris can hinder your device’s performance. A quick clean of the ports, coil, prongs, and crevices with a cotton swab or isopropyl alcohol can solve this issue.
- Change your pod/coil: If drawing feels obstructed, it might be time to change your pod or coil. Aging coils can impact performance, taste, and draw. Opt for a fresh replacement to get back to a satisfying vaping experience.
Problem 2: Leaking and Spitting
Leaking and spitting can disrupt your vaping experience. Here’s how to prevent and address these issues:
- Ensure secure assembly: Tighten all device parts, including the coil and tank components, to prevent leaks.
- Use your device regularly: If your device sits idle for extended periods, leakage might occur. Empty the pod/coil before storage to avoid this.
- Avoid “chain-vaping”: Hitting your device repeatedly in quick succession can thin e-liquid and lead to leaks or spitting. Space out your hits by waiting 5-10 seconds between draws.
- Mind your fill level: Overfilling your pod/tank can cause spitting and gurgling sounds. Aim to fill to about ¾ or follow the max fill line.
- Keep your device cool: Vaping with a hot device can lead to thinning e-liquid, which might cause leaks or spitting. Allow your device to cool before vaping to avoid this issue.
Problem 3: Understanding Coils
Coils are fundamental to vaping. Here’s how to change and choose them wisely:
- Changing coils: Coils can be easily replaced. Gently pull or release the coil from the tank. If stuck, consider using pliers or contacting the seller.
- Recognizing coil replacement time: When the taste is muted or burnt, it’s time to swap out the coil. Generally, replace your coil every 2-4 weeks to ensure consistent performance.
- Mesh vs. Regular coils: Mesh coils offer smoother hits and enhanced flavor production. They’re faster and generate more vapor. Regular coils are suitable for less particular vapers.
Problem 4: Selecting the Right Ohm Level
Ohm levels influence your vaping experience. Here’s how to choose:
- Higher ohms (1.2, 1.8, 2.1) offer a tighter draw and less cloud.
- Lower ohms (0.25, 0.5, 0.8) result in airier draws and more vapor.
- Match lower ohms with sub-ohm devices and higher ohms with pod systems or mouth-to-lung hits.
Problem 5: Nic Salts
Nic salts provide high nicotine content with a smoother hit. Use them wisely:
- Ideal for pod systems and low-wattage devices.
- Avoid using nic salts in sub-ohm devices to prevent potential health issues.

Everything You Need to Know about Disposable Vapes
What are disposable vapes? Disposables Vapes 101
Curious about disposable vapes? Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned vaper, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about these convenient vaping options.
Understanding Disposable Vapes:
Disposable vapes come in various shapes and sizes, but they all share one common trait: convenience. Pre-filled with e-liquid and fully charged, these vapes are ready to use straight out of the box. Designed for simplicity, they typically feature draw-activated mechanisms, meaning you simply inhale to activate the device. Once the e-liquid is depleted, you can dispose of the vape. Brands offer different sizes to cater to varying device lifespans, often measured in the number of draws they provide.
How Do They Work?
Disposable vapes consist of an internal battery powering a coil. The coil heats up the pre-filled e-liquid, producing vapor when you draw on the device. Unlike refillable vapes, disposables come pre-filled and lack charging ports, making them hassle-free and ideal for on-the-go use.
Advantages of Disposable Vapes:
- Ease of Use: Designed for simplicity, disposables are hassle-free and require no setup or adjustments.
- Portability and Discretion: Compact and discreet, disposable vapes easily fit in your pocket or purse, making them perfect for social gatherings.
- Affordability: With lower upfront costs compared to vape kits, disposables offer an affordable entry point into vaping.
- Nicotine Delivery: Nicotine salts in disposable vapes provide a fast and efficient nicotine delivery, ideal for smokers transitioning to vaping.
Disadvantages of Disposable Vapes:
- Cost Over Time: While individual disposables are cheaper upfront, frequent purchases may add up, making refillable vape kits a more economical option.
- Limited Flavor Options: Disposables offer fewer flavor choices compared to bottled e-liquids, limiting variety for users.
- Lack of Customization: Disposable vapes lack features like adjustable airflow and coil options, limiting customization.
- Environmental Impact: As single-use devices, disposables contribute to plastic waste and are not recyclable, posing environmental concerns.
E-Liquid Used in Disposable Vapes:
Disposable vapes typically contain e-liquid with nicotine salts. Nicotine salts allow for efficient nicotine delivery even in small quantities of e-liquid, offering a smoother throat hit and faster absorption, particularly suitable for new vapers.

Everything You Want to Know About Nicotine Salts
What Is Nicotine Salt? Nicotine Salts 101
Curious about nicotine salts? Whether you’re a seasoned vaper or just starting out, this guide will provide you with comprehensive insights into nicotine salts and help you make informed decisions about your vaping experience.
Understanding Nicotine Salt:
Nicotine salt is formed by combining a nicotine base with a weak acid, resulting in a lower pH level in the e-liquid. This adjustment reduces irritation in the chest and lungs, making the vaping experience smoother. Nicotine salts enhance nicotine delivery, closely mimicking the speed of absorption observed with traditional cigarettes. This characteristic makes them particularly suitable for individuals transitioning from smoking to vaping.
Freebase Nicotine vs. Nicotine Salt:
Freebase nicotine, the original e-liquid formulation, lacks additives or acids to lower its pH level. Consequently, it tends to deliver a harsher throat hit compared to nicotine salts. Freebase nicotine allows for higher flavor concentrations in e-liquids, making it appealing to those who prioritize taste. On the other hand, nicotine salts offer a smoother vaping experience, making them ideal for individuals seeking to replace smoking with a less harsh alternative.
Choosing the Right E-Liquid:
The best e-liquid option depends on personal preference and nicotine consumption history. Nicotine salts are well-suited for newcomers transitioning from smoking to vaping due to their smoother feel. Freebase nicotine is excellent for people who prefer to vape frequently throughout the day. You are able to vape much more often while still consuming less nicotine than traditional smoking or vaping a nicotine salt e-liquid. People looking to lower their nicotine intake should strongly consider this option since it tends to come in many more concentrations that may be more fitting to more people. Freebase nicotine e-liquids are able to maintain a higher flavour concentration when manufactured. People looking for a strong flavour that has not been subdued with nicotine salt will be much more likely to enjoy this form of e-liquid.
Compatible Devices for Nicotine Salts:
Not all vaping devices are suitable for both nicotine forms. Avoid using nicotine salt e-liquids in high-powered sub-ohm devices, as they may deliver excessive nicotine levels and lead to a negative vaping experience. Instead, opt for pod system units, which operate at lower wattage levels and are designed for e-liquids with higher nicotine concentrations. Pod units are usually smaller and less expensive than Sub-ohm Vapes which is another appealing feature to people looking to transition away from traditional smoking towards vaping.
Conclusion:
Vaping is intended to provide a pleasant and healthier alternative to smoking, and choosing the right nicotine form and device is crucial for a successful transition. Whether you’re considering nicotine salts or freebase nicotine, prioritize your comfort and satisfaction to enhance your vaping journey.

5 Tips to Make Your Vaporizer Long Lasting
Vaporizers are becoming popular on the market used to vape e-liquid. They are also cost-effective as you can use a device for several months. Once you have the battery, your recurring costs will involve replacing coils and e-liquids. The frequency of replacing them depends on how often you use the device.
While replacing liquids is straightforward, the key to a long vaporizer lifespan is to maintain the coil. The cost of constantly replacing a burnt coil is a downside of vaping. Therefore,
1. Use the right coil
Purchase quality coils and vapes with replacement pods that will guarantee long life. Vape coils are strands of thin wire that connect with the base. When the coil and wick heat, the fluid turns into vapor to inhale. Every time you vape, the wick gets dry and sucks up more juice from the tank. Your device lifespan depends on using the best quality atomizer that will stand heating without burning.
Also, use the correct wicking material in your vaporizer. The materials include cotton, ceramic, stainless steel, and wool. Every coil has its characteristics, including wattage ratings and where it functions best. For example, organic cotton provides better flavors, while a vaporizer with ceramic heating element is durable and preserves flavors. Buy coils made for the specific device you use.
2. Clean your device often.
This might seem like an obvious thing, but some people may not regularly clean their devices. Regular maintenance of your device is the first route to increasing the vapes lifespan. Depending on your vaping habit, ensure you constantly remove residues from the vaporizer.
Like any other device, regular use stretches the coil. The coil receives the e-juice residue and grime that can block its functioning. If you are a chain smoker, ensure you clean your device once every week to get the best out of your device.
Apart from giving the device a long life, regular cleaning ensures you get clean hits. New coils and clean tanks offer better flavors that will stick forever. When cleaning the tank, remove any old juice residues. For example, rinse the coil with water to remove any juice traces. When cleaning the device, focus on the chamber, vapor path, and screens in the vapor path.
3. Use premium liquid
The type of e-liquid determines how long you will use your vaporizer. Today, you will find dozens of vape juices on the market with variant characteristics. Choose a liquid with less sweetener since sugar will gunk up the coil and prevent the wick from soaking new juice. A coil will burn if the wick is not adequately saturated.
Also, focus on liquids with PG bases for a long vape life. Vape juices containing high VG content can burn your coil. This is because they are thick and affect the wick from soaking. Therefore, use PG liquids that are thinner and dip into the wick well. These e-liquids with higher PG content make it easy for the coil to work.
Use the right e-juice that won’t damage your coils. Premium liquids can make a difference in your vaporizer lifespan. Avoid e-liquids that give more gunk and residue to the coil. Instead, use the liquid with a balanced proportion of VG and PG.
4. User appropriate temperatures
The life of a vaporizer depends on how you use it. Using high wattage’s during vaping can shorten the life of your device. It stresses the coil since the liquid burns faster, thus risking burning it. You can make your device long-lasting by using lower wattage settings on your battery. Check the temperature settings to ensure it doesn’t have high wattage that will cause the coil to dry quickly.
Temperature control prevents the wick from burning, allowing you to enjoy vaping for longer. This is where you set a maximum temperature for the vaporizer before vaping. Every time the coil reaches this maximum temperature, the battery stops delivering power. It prevents the wick from getting dry and burning quickly.
While high wattage’s produce enormous clouds, they will shorten the vape life and force you into constant replacing. High wattage makes the coil heat while struggling to soak up e-liquid. Reducing the power setting can extend the coil’s lifespan.
5. Prime new coils before using
One of the main tips to lengthen your vapes lifespan is to prime a new coil before using it. The coil will burn if you use it immediately without priming the atomizer head. Ensure you saturate the wick before you vape to stretch its lifespan. However, be careful not to over-saturate and flood the vape.
If you don’t prime it, the coil can burn straight away since it is too dry. Give it five minutes to saturate with the vape juice and be ready to heat. Alternatively, you can manually prime your coil if you don’t want to wait.
The Bottom Line
Vaporizers can have a long lifespan, depending on how you use them. Poor vaping habits can cause your coil to burn quickly and affect your vaping experience. If you want to avoid the cost of constantly replacing the coils, these tips can help lengthen the vapes’ lifespan. Ensure you apply them to stop the vape coil from quickly burning. While vaping is a great way to switch from cigarettes, your experience depends on taking proper care of the device.

Making your e-liquid last longer during COVID-19
Making your e-liquids last longer when you’re running low
The Coronavirus pandemic has shut down much of the world including of course, our go-to retail vape shops. This has caused some supply issues, not excluding the ease of getting our hands on our favourite e-liquids. I work in a warehouse surrounded by thousands of bottles of e-liquids each day and yet I am still very good at running out of e-liquid when I’m not at work. I have on many occasions searched like a mad woman in my car and house looking for a bottle of e-liquid in any flavour. Secretly hoping to find one of my favorites like Cool Peppermint or Swede-ish Berries. So as you can imagine I have become very good at stretching out my last bottle of e-liquid. Since I’m sure some of you may be in the same boat now with the temporary closure of vape shops I thought I would share a few tips on how to make your e-liquid last while you’re waiting on your online order to arrive.

Oil in the lungs? Lipid laden macrophages? Know the FACTS about what’s in Canada Vapes e-liquid!
Misconceptions in Media Reports
In recent media reports, there have been many misguided statements regarding the e-liquid traditionally used in e-cigarettes. Statements such as “Doctors found his lungs had become severely congested with solidified oil”(Source) and “lipid laden macrophages,” calling them “oily chemicals” and making statements like “inhaling oil into your lungs” (Source) have caused fear and confusion. These are certainly scary statements: “oils in your lungs”, “buildup of oils causing respiratory distress”, “solvents”, and “inflammation.”
Before you consider discarding your vapes in favour of cigarettes, here are some facts about the ingredients used by Canada Vapes in their e-liquid, which are created & manufactured for vaping nicotine:
Primary Ingredient #1: Propylene Glycol
Propylene Glycol (PG) has been used in nicotine e-liquid for many years. It is water soluble, colourless, odorless, non-toxic, and easily metabolized by your body. The FDA has classified Propylene Glycol as GRAS (generally recognized as safe). PG is easily metabolized in the body into normal products of the citric acid metabolic cycle, which are completely non-toxic to the body. (Source)
Propylene Glycol is found in many products around your house. These include soft drinks, ice cream, salad dressings, alcoholic beverages, dried soups, marshmallows, and much more. It also has many cosmetic uses, such as diaper creams and baby lotions, and is used by pharmaceutical companies in topical, intravenous and oral medications.(Source)
Primary Ingredient #2: Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is an odorless, water-based carbohydrate that is widely used in the food industry, and is typically extracted from plants. We use plant-sourced USP grade vegetable glycerin. “The toxicity of glycerin is remarkably low across a broad range of animal models and in humans.” (Source)
Vegetable Glycerin has been approved by Health Canada and the FDA, is labeled GRAS (generally regarded as Safe), and it is one of the most benign organic liquids. It’s hypoallergenic, non-mutagenic, non-teratogenic, and non-carcinogenic. (Source)
Vegetable Glycerin is used in a wide variety of products used daily by consumers. It is used in many baked goods, soaps, pet foods, gel capsules, dental care products, eye & ear drops, toothpastes, and in many cosmetics, including shampoos, face washes, blushes, and foundations.
Canada Vapes uses only plant-derived USP grade Vegetable Glycerin in our e-liquids.
Primary Ingredient #3: Flavouring
The flavouring we use at Canada Vapes is water soluble, and GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by both Health Canada and/or the FDA. We do offer many different flavour options at Canada Vapes, so the exact percentage of flavouring we use varies from e-liquid to e-liquid, however the general concentration of flavouring is between 1%-10%. Our flavoring is PG based, and water soluble.
Depending on the individual using our e-liquids it is possible that some flavouring may cause irritation. In general, it is always better to choose not to vape, smoke, marijuana, or any draw any other substances into your lungs. The best air is fresh air. That being said, vaping is a harm reduction product and in comparison with combustible cigarettes the health risks are greatly reduced.
Primary Ingredient #4: Nicotine
We offer our e-liquids in 8 Nicotine Levels, including a (0mg/ml) no nicotine option. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance, however its health effects are similar to that of coffee. Nicotine slightly raises your heart rate and therefore blood pressure, slightly increasing your insulin production.
While there are some risks to using nicotine, of all the ingredients in a tobacco cigarette, nicotine is one of the least harmful ones. While nicotine is typically the reason that smokers become addicted, having nicotine available in e-liquid is the reason that vaping is remarkably effective in smoking cessation.
Nicotine also has a few potential benefits – including the potential to reduce the risk of Parkinson’s Disease(Source), reduce stress & anxiety, and stabilize mood. Lynn Kozlowsky, a Professor of Community Health & Health Behavior at the University at Buffalo stated, “Nicotine may be a useful drug for some people and help them function better.”
But What About the Recent Epidemic of People Getting Sick?
CanadaVapes.com has been using the same ingredients in our e-liquids for over 9 years. In our history, none of our patrons have developed any sudden respiratory distress or significant health issues as a result of vaping our e-liquids.
The answer is most likely that the recent epidemic of people getting sick is not from vaping traditional e-cigarettes with nicotine e-liquid. There has been a new additive that a few manufacturers, or individuals, have been adding to pre-filled, black market THC Pods that is most likely causing this epidemic. A product that Canada Vapes does not, and has not, sold.
But What About the “Oils” or “Oily Substances” or “Chemicals Attacking Immune Systems” Mentioned in the Media?
That is a great question! The answer is, I’m not sure.
There are a few theories going around that suggest that some ‘street sellers’, specifically of THC pens & pods, are using ingredients that are NOT safe for human consumption; mainly MCT Oils, Vitamin E Oils, and other chemicals dangerous to inhale. They use these additives to modify their product; THC or otherwise. Unfortunately, with very little regulation in this industry it is possible for a new company or individual to come onto the vaping scene and use unsafe ingredients to create an unsafe product.
So, What Can I Do to Protect Myself?
That’s a great question! There are a number of things you can do to ensure your safety:
First, I would recommend you only purchase your vaping products from a reputable & long-standing vaping company. I would NOT buy vaping products from a variety store, the street, a pop-up kiosk, or any company that seems to be new to the market.
Second, I would ensure that the place you are buying your e-liquid from lists their ingredients. If you see something on the ingredients that you don’t recognize, don’t vape this e-liquid. Do some research and make sure your e-liquid displays its ingredients. If the vape company is reputable in Canada, it should also include a lot number, a poison symbol, an expiry date, and first aid information. These are signs of a reputable company following all laws in Canada.
Third, I would listen to your body! It is possible that some people have sensitivities to any of the ingredients in e-liquid, including Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin, and some flavours. If you experience any stress when vaping, try switching to a different flavour, or you could try No Flavour E-liquid, which we produce here at Canada Vapes. Another option is a High VG E-liquid if you think you may have a sensitivity to PG.
I feel better! I was pretty worried about hearing all the news in the media.
Unfortunately, the old saying goes ‘if it bleeds, it leads’ in our media, and more and more it seems the big media outlets are going for that big ‘click bait’ title to entice people to read their articles. The media has lumped all vaping products together with a scary warning, instead of looking at the facts: traditional vaping products manufactured by reputable companies are not the culprit, and those people currently using these products should not be fearful.

Cool Interview with Original Inventor of E-cigarettes – Herbert Gilbert
Many believe the original inventor of the e-cigarette was Herbert Gilbert back in the 1960’s.
I was able to find a really cool back and forth interview with Herbert, discussing e-cigarettes, his design and ideas, as well as his thoughts on the future of e-cigarettes.
Many thanks to James Dunworth for this interview.
JD: Herbert, What was your background prior to inventing the e-cigarette?
HG: I graduated college with a B.A. in business and then went directly into the service. I am a Korean veteran. My father had a scrap yard in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and that is where I went to work. I am just your normal, average logical guy and the “logic” is my best asset.
JD: Were you a smoker yourself?
HG: Sure was…a 2 pack a day for years…stopped cold turkey about 20 years ago.
The First Electronic Cigarette
JD: What gave you the idea for your design?
HG: I’m a logical guy and logic told me to define the problem and then develop a solution. the problem, as I concluded, was that when you burned leaves and wood, even if you did it in your back yard, it yielded a result that no one wanted to take into their lungs.
For example, you can chew lettuce leaves…they are good for you and cinnamon is like tree bark and it doesn’t hurt you…but…if you dried them out, ground them up and mixed them together, put them in a big paper bag and set it on fire, the result would be nothing you would want going into your lungs. To put it as simply as possible, the problem could not occur if there was no combustion. Eureka!
I had to find a way to put out the fire. wait…they used fire in my aunt’s bakery to make bread and cookies from flour…so what was different? They didn’t burn it they cooked it and the aroma was a treat. Nobody screamed, “the oven is on fire! lie on the floor and crawl outside.” At this point I happened to remember how tea is brewed. That solved the problem. Using logic I had to find a way to replace burning tobacco and paper with heated, moist, flavored air.
Design, Prototypes and Production
JD: Was a prototype ever built?
HG: Using the technology available in 1963 I concluded that a battery powered heat source would do the job and the first electric cigarette was born. I did build prototypes and tried using various flavors of water as steam … and it worked.
JD: Are there any surviving prototypes?
HG: Unfortunately the warehouse at the scrap yard in Beaver Falls, where most of my stuff was stored, burned down. I don’t have any…but someone may come out of the woodwork with one when Emperor Brands 1963 Original starts advertising.
JD: How does your design differ from the current electronic cigarette?
HG: There is no electric cigarette today, that I have seen, that does not follow the basic road map set forth in my original patent. If you remove any part shown in my original patent from their electric cigarette it will not function. It may be positioned differently, sized differently, controlled differently…but…it still follows the road map set forth in my patent drawings.
JD: Why wasn’t the design put into production?
HG: Those I showed it to could have done it but they chose to wait for the patent to expire and then filed their own versions. I showed it to chemical companies, pharmaceutical companies and tobacco companies and they did what they did to try to protect their markets. I am sure that many great inventions that could have benefited people, in the past and even today, receive the same treatment. As John Cameron pointed out to me, timing can be everything and I was ahead of my time, and in the midst of what some might say was the most powerful advertising period of big tobacco.
JD: There’s evidence that Big Tobacco deliberately suppressed healthy alternatives, as producing and marketing these would have meant admitting that smoking was unhealthy. Are you saying that is the case here?
HG: I merely reported what happened to me and to my patent fifty years ago. As for now, with major tobacco companies becoming more and more involved with their own electric cigarette brands, logic tells me it is not happening now, nor will it happen in the future.
Herbet Gilbert’s E-Cigarette v. The Modern E-Cigarette
JD: In your opinion, would a device which produced tobacco flavored air have been as effective as one which produces vapor?
HG: No. A major part of the tobacco smokers addiction is said to be the tactile / physical aspect, (the other part is the chemical addiction). Therefore in my opinion, without the visual effect of vapour, which makes the “addict” think of their usual “smoke”, I doubt it would work nearly as effectively. Further, I am willing to wager that referring to steam as vapor is even older than I am…so feel free think of my flavored, medicated, water steam as vapor because that is how logic dictates i view this question.
Again read the patent application which provides for, “inhaling warm medication into the lungs in case of a respiratory ailment under direction of a physician.” You will find this, in writing, at the end of the first paragraph. There is no difference because my electric cigarette by any other name is still my “smokeless non-tobacco cigarette”, which happens to be the title of my application.
JD: How did you feel when the electronic cigarettes began to take the world by storm?
HG: Read my statement on the Emperor web site under history”.
JD: Do you see Ruyan e-cigarette invented by Hon Lik as an evolution of the one you designed, or a product that took a completely different direction?
HG: If it walks like a duck, has web feet, has a bill, swims in the water, looks like a duck and quacks….its a duck.
Restrictions on Electronic Cigarettes
JD: What are your thoughts on moves by governments and anti-smoking organizations to restrict or forbid the sale of electronic cigarettes?
HG: Logic again tells me that it is a combination of a lack of education/understanding and fear of what they consider the unknown. from my point of view it is a simple question: “Are you kidding?”
To my knowledge nothing has stemmed the increase of the number of tobacco smokers, not legislation, special packaging and warnings nor death. I believe that my invention is the first chance we have to do so. Prove me wrong. In my opinion, legislators should be doing all they can to help with this solution, including proving it works. Government needs to help with the solution. Once they understand that what is delivered can be completely controlled so that anything bad can be, has been, and if identified as bad, will be removed then, rather than fight it, they will encourage it as a total replacement for cigarettes and some types of medications.
Herbert Gilbert Today
JD: How did you become involved in Emperor Brands?
HG: The best answer for this is covered on the emperor brands web site again under “history”. John David Cameron, of Emperor Brands, is the gentleman who searched me out and recruited me.
JD: What’s your role there, and how are you helping to develop the 1963 electronic cigarette?
HG: I worked with his team members and used logic to follow my roadmap and apply 21st century available technology to it. I will continue to do whatever I can to keep updating the technology and will remain devoted to promoting the 1963’s. Emperor Brand’s goal and my goal are the same. We want to save as many lives as we can.
JD: Where do you see electronic cigarettes going in the future?
HG: I believe there is no question about the future of electric cigarettes. As knowledge grows, and it will, so will the market and I am proud to be the one who started it all.

Electronic cigarette variable voltage and resistance – A beginners guide
Understanding Variable Voltage and Accessory Resistance (Ohm ratings) – A beginners guide
As if choosing an electronic cigarette were not confusing enough, new customers now have to deal with options like ‘low resistance’ and ‘variable voltage’ devices. In addition to choosing atomizers, clearomizers, bottom or top feeding accessories, single use vs. rebuildable, and choosing e-liquid strengths and flavours, these extra options can make even regular electronic cigarette users confused. I will do my best in this article to explain and simply the resistance and voltage options for you.
Before I begin, I must first say that using a variable voltage battery is NOT required to fully enjoy an electronic cigarette. Electronic cigarettes are designed by default with optimal voltage and optimal resistances from the factory. For most people, having variable voltage and variable resistance is simply not necessary. It is more of a fun advanced option for those of you that enjoy experimentation.
Now let’s get into the technical aspects of this discussion.
But first, a few definitions:
- V – VOLTS
- Accessory = anything you attach to a battery. A clearomizer, atomizer, glassomizer, etc.
Variable Voltage
Variable voltage is referring to the amount of power (or voltage) that a battery emits. For all standard batteries we sell (for example, our EGO batteries and our 510 batteries) they are set at the factory at 3.7v. This is the voltage of 90% of the electronic cigarette batteries on the market.
When you have an electronic cigarette battery that is variable voltage, it simply means that the amount of CURRENT, or POWER that the battery sends to your accessory is adjustable. You can make it more powerful, or less powerful, typically with the spin of the dial, like spinner batteries, or with a click of a button, like with our EVic batteries. The range at which can adjust an e-cigarette battery is typically between 3v and 6v. When you increase the voltage of a battery, you increase the power going to your accessory, and therefore increase the amount the heating element in the device heats up. Hotter heating = more vapor and a warmer vapor.
While adjusting the voltage to devices can cause an improvement in their performance, most devices are designed to be run at the standard 3.7v, and increasing the voltage too high can cause negative effects. First, it can cause your accessory to ‘dry burn’ or to have a burnt taste to it. This is because the heating element is vaporizing the e-liquid faster than the accessory can provide more e-liquid, so not enough e-liquid gets to the heating element.
The other potentially negative effect is simply that batteries running on higher voltages won’t last as long, and will need to be more charged more frequently. Also, using an accessory that is designed to be used at a certain voltage battery, and pushing it higher can cause the accessory to burn out, or at the very least will decrease its lifespan.
On the flip side, some people find reducing the voltage will improve their experience. If you find the vapor to be too warm or too harsh, sometimes reducing the voltage just a few percentages down to 3.5v or 3.3v can improve your experience.
There are also some other good points to variable voltage. Some devices simply work better at slightly different voltages. Personally, I find that our CE5 Clearomizers do best at around 3.9-41.v, and Davide Glassomizers actually work better at slightly lower voltages. This is where personal preference comes in, and many people tinker with their settings to find the voltage that works for them.
The most important thing to remember with variable voltage is to START LOW, and work up SLOWLY. Do not simply flip your battery to the highest setting and go. Not only can this destroy your accessory, it can also cause issues with overheating, making your accessory very hot and even causing e-liquid to sizzle and pop, which is not a good thing. A good idea is to start your battery on the very lowest setting, and work higher by 0.2v until you find the sweet spot for that accessory.
Variable Resistance (Ohm)
Variable resistance has to do with the accessories rather than the batteries. Variable resistance in an accessory is the amount of electricity, or power that is needed to go through your accessories heating element. The lower the resistance, they thinner the wire, and the more easily electricity from your battery will pass through it, making it heat up faster and with more ease. The higher the resistance, the thicker the wire, and the more power will be required to heat up the heating element. So in a nutshell, low resistance = more heat, vapor, etc. and high resistance = less heat, resistance, etc.
Typically, accessories that are sold with variable resistances will be sold in 3 categories: Low resistance, standard resistance, and high resistance. Low resistance will require LESS electricity to pass through them, and will therefore heat up HOTTER. High resistance will require MORE electricity to pass through them, and will therefore heat up LESS. So, it’s actually backwards of what many people think.
Combining the two
Now that you have a basic understanding of both variable voltage and variable resistance, the real fun begins. The mixing and matching of different resistance accessories with different voltages in the battery can make some very unique experiences. For example, if you use an accessory that has high resistance, you can increase the voltage of your battery quite high and will have a completely different vaping experience. Alternately, you can lower your voltage of your battery and use a low resistance accessory for a different vaping experience. You can also use a low resistance or high resistance accessory with a standard battery for another unique vaping experience.
Have fun, don’t be scared, and just remember the golden rule: Start with low voltage and work your way up. If you get any dry taste with your accessory, turn down the battery to a lower voltage. And most importantly, enjoy!
